The event, which has its origins in the 1400s, is always celebrated on the first Sunday of August and has its highlight in the laying of thousands of luminaires (biodegradable) lit in honor of the Madonna in the sea: for the local fishermen she is the “Stella del Mare”. In the morning the cannon shot announces the departure of the Dragun which, followed by paved boats, leads the parish priest to the altar of the “Stella Maris” located in Punta Chiappa, where Holy Mass will be celebrated.
In the evening while the floating lights are positioned on the water, the “Dragun”, accompanied by canoes, parades in a play of light and music.
