This species is the largest jellyfish in the Mediterranean: its diameter can reach up to 60 cm for a weight of 10 kg. It has 8 semitransparent tentacles scarcely stinging, among which some small fish often find refuge that take advantage of the jellyfish to feed on plankton sheltered from any predators.
It can be found throughout the Mediterranean, especially towards the end of the summer.
