Small bird widespread mainly in Northern Europe. In the Ligurian Sea, especially young wintering individuals are encountered. It nests along the cliffs in very large groups. The livery of the body is black dorsally and white on the belly and has a large triangular and laterally compressed beak of orange, red and blue color.
It feeds mainly on small fish and molluscs, diving and swimming skillfully.
