Relatively common throughout the Mediterranean and unmistakable in appearance. The upper lobe of the caudal fin can be as long as the rest of the body and is an excellent hunting tool: it uses tail flicks to stun and kill the prey it feeds on, i.e. small fish, cephalopods and crustaceans.
Its presence is reported above all in the Adriatic Sea, where it is thought it can reproduce.
