Species sighted: Velelle, Moonfish, Zifi, Puffins
The Corsara motor ship left the ancient port of Genoa in total absence of wind, with calm sea. Immediately, a large amount of velellas on the surface, small hydrozoa relatives of jellyfish, caught the attention of the participants. In their vicinity, some sunfish were observed feeding on these. Some fins on the horizon then betrayed the presence of what turned out to be 7 beaked whales. The animals approached the boat allowing themselves to be photographed and it was thus possible to identify them. During the return, other sunfish were seen feeding on the surface of velellas, which are particularly numerous this season. Then a couple of puffins, who were resting floating on the surface, let the motorboat approach them, diving several times to hunt for fish in front of everyone’s eyes.
